The Latest News and Updates...
from Pastor Mike

January 10th
I guess I'll just have to accept the fact that I don't have the time to update the news very often. I hope you'll understand ....

November 8th
What an incredibly busy couple of weeks ... here's a recap:

Last Sunday we had our Trunk-or-Treat and what a time we had! Our best estimates put attendance at 2500-3000 of our neighbors. The kids' costumes were adorable, the candy was plentiful, the food was tasty, and the Mystery Maze stayed open 'till Wednesday!!! Thanks to everyone involved.

Yesterday we celebrated the retirement of our Administrator, Carl Vaughn. Carl has been with us since 1971 and will be greatly missed. We hope he and Libby think about us once in a while as they enjoy retirement!

October 11th
OK, OK, It's been a while since the last update, but we've been really busy. Last Friday night our dance teams performed at the City of Riverside's fundraiser for the new animal shelter. The girls did a fantastic job (as always). Everybody loved them.

The week before, Lindsay Roberts spoke in both our morning services. What a great time! It was really a pleasure to have the Roberts family with us again.

It's Volleyball season, and our Junior and Senior High teams are doing great. This is the first year we've had a boys team, and they're coming along just fine. Good job Bethel Kings!

September 12th
The school year is off to a really good start. So many wonderful families ...

Why don't you come out and cheer them on?

Also, we're having an Athletics Fundraiser Car Wash right after church. Your car is dirty, right? It needs to be cleaned, right? Need I say more?

We had two wonderful services with Phil Driscoll today. You were there, right?

May 3rd
Bethel School's Open House is this Thursday night at 6:30 pm, with a BBQ and Ice Cream dinner at 5:30 pm. It's a great opportunity to check out what Bethel's students are doing, chat with a teacher or coach, and pick up an info packet.

Also, this Sunday we're having a surprise special guest - Phil Driscoll - in both of our morning services. Come celebrate Mothers' Day with Phil (and bring your Mom, too!).

The Dance competition in Las Vegas was really exciting...exhausting, but exciting. Our teams took 3 firsts, a second, a third, and a fourth place.

The Easter Concert and Spring Break are now behind us, and summer is speeding toward us. 2010 is really moving!

Oh, and 135 people made decisions for Jesus this weekend! Just thought you'd like to know ...

March 28th
The Easter Egg Hunt was a giant success. All those kids scrambling around our soccer and baseball fields was a hoot to watch (and their parents "helping" was pretty funny, too).

Only one more week 'til our Easter Concert. It's going to be a wonderful time. You need to be here at least once...

Our Junior and Senior High teams each took 2nd place in the State Finals on Saturday. Great job, girls! Now it's on to the Nationals in Las Vegas ...

March 13th
Baseball/Softball season has started, and our boys and girls look really good. The games are really fun to watch, so try to make it to a home game or two. The kids would really appreciate the support from their church family.

Oh, and we're having Communion tomorrow during both services, so don't miss out.

March 7th
Today was a good day. Pastor Ron is in Bakersfield today, so Margie preached a barn-burner of a message on grace. I hope you were there to hear it.

We've had a couple of very busy weeks here at Bethel. All of the various SuperBowl parties were really fun. I think we had 46 people at our house. Our High School's Basket ball seasons wrapped up, and our teams did really well. Our girls won 5 of their last 6 games! Next year, watch out CIF, we're headed to the playoffs! And we've got Dance competitions and the Nationals coming up.

The Christmas holiday has come and gone, and I have to say that 2009 turned out to be a pretty good year after all. I hope you had a good time with your family and friends celebrating God's gift of His Son Jesus.

I'm looking forward to all the things that God has in store for us in 2010. It's gonna be a good year. I'll see you in church tomorrow...

December 24th
It's Christmas Eve, I hope that each of you has a wonderful celebration of Jesus' birth, and you enjoy the time with your family and friends. Merry Christmas to all of you!

December 14th
Wow, what a weekend! We went from dress rehearsal to final tweaks to Sunday's performances without taking a breath. At least that's how it seems.

All three scheduled performances were SRO (standing room only) and we had to ask folks to come back at every performance. Finally, we added an extra performance at 7:30 PM for the people who couldn't get in the other three! All of the performances were fantastic. Everyone did such a good job. Thanks for all your time, energy and hard work ...

December 10th
It's here! This weekend is our Christmas Production. Performances of The King, The Long-Awaited Promise will be this Sunday at 9:00 & 11:30 AM and 6:00 PM.

This could be the high-point of your Christmas season, don't miss it!

November 29th
I hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving. God is good (all the time) and we all have much to be thankful for.

Oh, and there's only 2 weeks 'till the King, the Long-Awaited Promise, our Christmas Production...

November 21st
Our Dance Teams had a great time this morning at Applebee's serving breakfast to all their friends and family (and more than a few walk-ins). The kids did a really good job, and they raised quite a bit of money for their upcoming competitions, costumes and stuff. You can see some of the pictures here.

November 20th
We're coming up on Thanksgiving week. That means no school, no church Wednesday night, and lots of food and football on Thursday. Let's remember to give thanks to God who gives us every good thing, OK?

And if you're going to eat breakfast on Saturday (Nov. 21), why don't you meet us a Applebee's in Riverside between 8-10am for an all-you-can-eat fundraiser for our championship dance teams. Tickets are only $10.

November 7th
What a beautiful day for a Car & Bike Show. The Cars were great. The chili was Hot. And I got to drive a Shelby GT500KR!!! Can you think of a better day? I can't. You can look at some of the pictures here.

November 1st
Our Trunk-or-Treat last night was a smashing success. Thanks to everyone who help make it such a great experience (especially the Forsyths and Colvins!) You can see some of the pictures here.

Can it be that time already? Christmas rehearsal starts TONIGHT at 6 pm. Have you signed up yet?

October 23rd

October 11th
Choir Practice! Ronda's having Choir Practice tonight at 6:00 for a special number in a few weeks. If you missed tonight, there's another practice next Sunday, too.

Are you eating breakfast on Saturday? If so, why don't you eat it at Applebee's downtown and help our dancers with this season's expenses. It's All-You-Can-Eat for $10, and the dancers and parents will be the servers. You can get your ticket from anyone on the dance teams...

October 5th
What a weekend! On Saturday at Chino High School our dance teams did something new. Our College Trio competed for the first time, and our Mini-Mascots, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High dancers performed their Disney Medley production number from the recital last Spring. How did it go? Both took first place. And, yes, it was exciting.

On Sunday we had two really good services. The music was moving, the ministry was powerful, and the presence of God was obvious. Hope you were here...

September 27th
We had a good weekend with great services. The band's special was really good and Pastor's message was important (buy the CD if you missed it...). Remember the Chuck E. Cheese school fundraiser on Thursday night. Look for me - I'll be the guy in the Hawaiian shirt with pizza on my face.

September 20th
After two great services today, some of our school kids had a Car Wash Fundraiser. They did a really good job and washed a lot of cars. You can see some pictures here.

September 19th
OK, I apologize. I know there haven't been any updates this week 'cause I left my laptop at home while I was on my 25th Anniversary Cruise with Ronda. Sorry, I had other things to do...

After church tomorrow Bethel's kids are washing cars in the parking lot, raising $$$ for their sports programs. If you haven't bought your tickets already, you can buy them at church or just show up and let us make your car sparkle!

September 12th
Just a reminder: the memorial service for our dear Helen Jaffe is this afternoon at 3pm in the sanctuary. If you can, join us as we celebrate and remember our friend Helen.

September 1st
School is well under way, but we are still registering new students. If you are interested, call the school office and arrange a tour. Some of our classes are filling up, but we still have room. Please pray about enrolling your children in Bethel's school. It might make the difference you're looking for...

August 30th
We had a great time today celebrating Pastor Ron's 70th birthday. Even though I'm sure he would have preferred to have ignored it completely, the rest of us wouldn't have missed this opportunity to honor our Pastor.

August 20th
School starts in ONE WEEK! Are your students registered?

Our Dance teams are having a special training camp today and tomorrow with the instructors from Sharp International. They are going to be in great shape for this year's competitions. Oh, did I forget to mention that our Elementary and Junior High teams were National Champions last year?... We are looking forward to a successful season and a great witness for Jesus again this year.

August 19th
We had 4 wonderful services with Lucy and Sito Rael this week. The presence of God was powerful, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit was incredible.

August 14th
School registration is well under way, and we are praying for every student who is a part of Bethel to have a wonderful year. Baseball/Softball camp just finished and the kids had a great time, and learned a lot more about the basics of these great games.

Lucy and Cito are going to be with us in two days! Sunday services are at 9 & 11:30 am. Tuesday and Wednesday services are at 7:00 pm. Don't miss out on what God has in store...

July 26th
We had a great day today! Pastor Ronda Crites explained how God's grace really is enough. We don't have to (and can't) earn God's love or acceptance. Remember, Lucy and Cito are coming in three weeks...

July 5th
What an amazing day! The Independence Celebration was outstanding. Everyone did such a great job - the dancers, the singers, the choirs, the cast, and the soldiers - it was wonderful. And 46 people invited Jesus into their hearts! It doesn't get any better than this...

July 2nd
And I thought summer would be relaxing! We welcomed our newest members on Sunday, celebrated this year's college graduates on Tuesday, and the dress rehearsal for the Independence Celebration is tomorrow night. How 'bout you...are you getting a break?

Sunday is going to be a wonderful day. The choirs, dancers, cast and crew are going to blow your mind, and God might even touch your heart. Make sure you're here at least once, and bring your neighbors with you. The will have a great time.

June 27th
Bethel's kids are worn out (or at least the chaperones are). Our youth group had their Beach Cookout on Friday. They had a great time, but came back a little pinker than when they left. Thanks to Pastor Steve and our Youth Staff for doing such a good job with our teenagers.

Today, our Children's Ministry went to Disneyland and had a wonderful day. Pastor Harold, our Children's Staff, and the parents who went along gave our children a great time. What great memories our kids have...

By the way, the Independence Celebration is only a week away. Ronda and the crew are working furiously to iron out all the details. This is really going to be something. You don't want to miss this. Trust me!

Finally, Bethel Christian College graduation ceremony is Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Come help us celebrate with those who have earned their degrees.

June 19th
OK, so maybe I'm looking forward to this a little too much...both of my kids are old enough to go with Pastor Steve and the youth group to the beach on Fridays. Each Friday during the summer our teenagers go to the beach for a little r&r. Have a good time, guys (and don't forget the sun screen).

June 12th
What a week! After 5 (!) graduation ceremonies, the '08-'09 school year is finally complete. We are proud of all of our graduates, and we're looking forward to next year. God has great things in store for Bethel Christian Schools.

June 7th
Lots to talk about this week. Yesterday our Men's Ministry had an outing to view a private car collection in Orange County. It was AMAZING! The cars were impeccably restored, the displays were outstanding, the neon signs were brilliant. Oh, and the pizza birthday lunch was a lot of fun, too.

Today, some of our school kids had a car wash after 2nd service and it went really well. Dozens of cars were washed (and washed well), everyone had a good time, and we raised some money for our schools. Good job, guys. And a special 'thank you' to the parents and friends who helped out.

This is the last week of school at Bethel, with graduations on Tuesday (preschool), Thursday (high school) and Friday (elementary and junior high).

May 31st
Our Ladies' Spring Breakfast was wonderful. The decorations were beautiful, the breakfast was delicious, and everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this day so wonderful...

May 29th
Last night our kids put on one amazing program. Bethel Christian School's Spring Dance Recital was simply amazing!

The solos, duets, competition routines and production numbers were incredible. All of the kids did such a great job. The audience was blown away. I hope you were there...

Congrats to Nicole, Gabrielle and all the parents and friends that helped pull this off.

May 25th
I hope you're having a good holiday weekend (remembering those who gave their lives protecting our country) with your friends and family.

This Thursday, Bethel Christian School is presenting our spring Dance Recital. We'll have performances by our kids from Kindergarten through High School. It's going to be a great program and we'd love it if you would come. It's at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary. Admission is FREE. See you there...

May 17th
We had quite a day today...right after second service, the students in Bethel's music program had a piano recital at a large convalescent home in Riverside. The folks loved our kids, and the kids did great.

Oh yeah, the new college class schedule for the summer and fall semesters has been posted. You can find them on the College Page.

May 10th
We had two great services today. Ronda talked about how to have peace in our homes God's way. It was a great Mother's Day message.

Oh yeah ... Happy Mothers Day.

May 7th
We just got back from our school's Open House and Science Fair. The science projects were top-notch, and the classroom presentations were really good. Next year is going to be a great one.

Are your students registered yet? Why don't you call and ask for a tour?

May 4th
We had a couple of great services yesterday. Pastor Mike talked about how to succeed even though times are tough (lessons we can learn from Joseph).

We've got our school's Open House coming up on Thursday. Why don't you drop by and check it out?

Apr. 29th
We had two great services with Keith Hershey on Sunday. God is doing so much around the world through Keith's ministry, and the Bethel Family is blessed to be able to help support what is happening. Thanks to everyone who came and so generously gave to Keith's ministry.

Apr. 20th
I know this is a couple of days late, but my laptop died and I couldn't update (wah!)

We were in Las Vegas this weekend for the Dance National Championships with our teams and, WOW, what a weekend. Our Junior Teams are now, officially, NATIONAL CHAMPS!!! They did great.

Our Senior High team performed brilliantly, taking 2 firsts and 2 seconds, placing Second Place overall.

It was a looooong weekend, but our kids were wonderful. I'm so proud of them. They represented our school and our church, but most importantly our Savior with excellence.

Apr. 12th
After 4 performances of our Easter concert, I'm sure everyone involved is worn out, but it was worth it. Everyone did a great job, singing and dancing and giving their all. What a great experience. Each performance was pretty full, and 160 people let us know that they had invited Jesus into their hearts!

Apr. 10th
We just finished the first of four performances of UnEnding Love, our Easter concert. Everyone involved did such a fantastic job celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, and the audience was blown away.

You've only got 3 more chances to bring a friend, neighbor or co-worker to see what your church family is doing (and just maybe they'll have an encounter with Jesus at the same time).

Apr. 8th
Easter weekend is only a few days away, and Ronda and her crew are making all of the last minute adjustments and preparations for our Easter Concert, UnEnding Love. It's going to be wonderful. Who are you bringing with you?

Also, congrats to Jack and Amanda on the safe arrival of their new baby girl (some people will do anything to get off of the tech crew!)

Mar. 30th
I missed church yesterday (out of town on family business) but I hear everything went well.

Next Sunday, our dance team is performing a new routine to "Amazing Grace" in both morning services. I've seen it and it is outstanding (although I may be a bit biased). Don't miss it.

Mar. 22nd
There's a new College page up, with class schedules, course information and other exciting, useful stuff. OK, it's not that exciting...

Mar. 21st
OK, I just got the call. Our teams took the Grand Champion prize at the California regional competition! That's right, our kids are the State Champions!!!

Every routine but one took first place. Bethel's dancers are amazing! Great Job...we're all very proud of you.

Mar. 20th
Easter is right around the corner, and Ronda tells me that the concert is going to be great. The Choirs are sounding so good, and the dance teams are incredible. Make sure you get a flyer (or five) and hand them out. Your family, friends and co-workers need to experience Easter with us.

Also, our kids will be at the California regional dance competition at Knott's Berry Farm tomorrow. I'll let you know how they did as soon as I find out...

Mar. 12th
Our Children's Pastor Harold Heffelfinger wants to let everyone know that this year's HUGE Easter Egg Hunt is on for Sunday, April 5th (that's Palm Sunday). All of our kids, Preschool through 6th Grade will be having a wonderful time finding, collecting, and maybe even eating some Easter candy. You can get the details from Harold or any of our wonderful children's workers.

ps. All of the adult Sunday School classes are donating the eggs and candy, so thanks in advance.

Feb. 24th
For the last two Sundays Pastor Ron has been talking to us about Bethel's vision for the coming year. Yep, that means it's Vision Unlimited Pledge time. Everyone who is a part of Bethel should be a part of this. Have you asked God what He wants you to do and how much He wants you to give?

Feb. 8th
We had two wonderful services with Phil Driscoll today. So what if he didn't have his full set-up...God showed up in a big way. If you were there, you know what I mean. Thanks for being with us, Phil.

Feb. 7th
It's late on Saturday night, but we've just returned from the dance competition in Hemet, and I've got some results for you. Our Sr. High Lyrical team took 1st place in their division and increased their score by almost 8 points! The Junior High teams took 1st and 2nd place and scored very well. Our Mini-mascots and our Elementary team each took first place in their divisions, and brought home the Grand Champion Trophy for Elementary Schools! I'm so proud of our kids.

Their next competition is on March 21st at Knott's Berry Farm. Maybe you'd like to go?

Jan. 27th
All I can say is WOW! I just came from our school's dance recital and it was incredible. From our mini-mascots (the cutest kids I've ever seen) to our Elementary, Junior High and Senior Highers, every team did a fantastic job. The music was good, the dances were fun and very well done, and the presence of God was obvious. I hope you were able to attend. What? You didn't come? Well, the next recital is planned for May 28...

By the way, our teams' next competition in on Saturday, Feb. 7th in Hemet. Please keep us in your prayers...

Jan. 26th
Look to the left and you'll see a new guest who will be with us in less than two weeks...Phil Driscoll is coming to town and is going to drop by and visit us for our morning services. Now I wonder, who can you bring with you?

Jan. 22nd
Look to the left and you'll see a minor scheduling change - Keith Hershey will be with us on Sunday, April 26th instead of February 22nd. Please mark your calendars accordingly (I was trying to sound official. Did I pull it off?)

Jan. 19th
Don't you just love California? Steve Dorsey, our youth pastor for over 12 years took our teenagers on a surprise trip to the beach today. While the rest of the country is stuck in a block of ice, our kids are tanning at Balboa. Life is good.

Jan. 18th
We had a couple of great services this morning. Michael and Sheila Valcarcel spoke, giving a testimony about their struggle with and victory over cancer. It was very encouraging, seeing what God can do if we'll just trust Him and do what He tells us to. Thanks, Michael and Sheila. We appreciate your honesty.

Jan. 15th
Wow...I just got back from a couple of great basketball games. Bethel's High School teams were playing CSDR. It was our girls' first win this season, beating the Cubs by 5. Our guys played a real nail-biter, fighting all four quarters but getting outscored by 4 (two little, itty-bitty baskets). All of our players did a great job. You did Bethel proud.

Jan. 11th
OK, it's official...Ronda has figured out what we're doing for Easter this year. The Musical will be called Unending Love and we'll have choir, ensemble, and dance performances.

Choir practice starts Sunday night, Feb. 8th for Adults and Children (starting with second graders). It's a great musical and the concert is going to be incredible. Check with Ronda or Teri for the details...

We had a really good service today, even though Pastor Mike (that's me) was left all alone. Just think of the damage I could have done! It's always a good time when we can get together with our church family and spend some time in our Father's presence. God is good, all the time.

Jan. 5th
We had 3 great services yesterday with Lucy Rael. The presence of the Holy Spirit was very strong, and the ministry was encouraging. I hope you were there...

School is back in session and everyone seems to have had a good Christmas break. We've got a great bunch of students here at Bethel, and 2009 is going to be a great year.

Jan. 3rd
Well, I guess the Christmas holiday has past and 2008 is long gone. Our family had a really nice Christmas and a relatively quiet New Year's celebration...and despite years of conditioning by my family it was fun watching USC win the Rose Bowl.

2009 is going to be an interesting year. Maybe not an easy year, but God is in control and we can trust Him to do what He wants to get done. Our job is to pay attention and get involved.

I'm ready...are you?

Hope to see you at church tomorrow.

Dec. 22nd
Enjoy Christmas week, especially the throngs of fellow shoppers at the mall. That's what we'll be doing, and we'll have an update in a week or so.

Have a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year...

Dec. 17th
OK, OK ... I know it took a little while, but finally have some of our pictures up on the site (I'm working as fast as I can - sorry for the whining)

If you'd like to look at them, click here or on the link on the front page.

Dec. 14th
Our Christmas Concert was a smashing success. All 4 performances were wonderful...everyone did a fantastic job.

Each of the performances were really well attended (in fact, 3 of them were full) and 129 people told us that they had invited Jesus into their hearts!

Dec. 11th
You may have heard that our campus was vandalized yesterday...we had windows broken out of 4 classrooms and the church office. How annoying!

The real bummer was that they broke into our music room and stole 7 of our student keyboards, and that day the music classes were performing "Carol of the Bells" in chapel and needed those very same keyboards. So what happened?

By 10AM, a church family had made arrangements to replace all 7 keyboards, and the manager at Guitar Center was so irritated that someone would do that to our kids that he sold them to us for half price!

The performance went on without a hitch as scheduled...God is good!

Dec. 8th
I'm telling you, the church smelled great yesterday with all the Christmas trees being picked up from our school's sale. Many thanks for your support!

The church service was really good, hearing about Christmas and all. The elementary competition dance team performed and brought down the house. And if you didn't experience "the clapper," you missed it...

We had the first dress rehearsal of our Christmas Concert last night. Take my word for it...you don't want to miss it. In fact, you probably want to come to more than one performance!

Dec. 5th
We're getting closer to our Christmas Concert. We only have a couple of rehearsals left, and it's really coming together. You really don't want to miss this concert. Who are you bringing with you?

Nov. 30th
Pastor Ron preached today for the first time in 5 weeks. If you weren't here, remember that you can always get the sermons on CD...

Pastor Annie and Pastor Ronda ministered in both our morning services today. Lots of people received a personal touch from the Holy Spirit today. God is good, all the time.

Also, the Marriage Connections class had a delicious Thanksgiving Breakfast. Have you been to Sunday School lately?

Richard Roberts was here for both our morning services. Wow, what an incredible time. Scores of people were prayed for and healed, and Richard taught us how to be used by God to pray for each other. Remember, CDs are available of all our sermons if you want to listen to them again...

Our Men's Ministry Car & Bike Show was a huge success. We had 98 cars and bikes shown, and the quality and diversity of vehicles was really impressive. We had some gorgeous bikes and some beautiful cars. And to top it off, we raised a little over $2000 for our school. All in all, it was a great day!

Pastor Ronda preached today on how important it is to get along with each other, and how to deal with conflict when it arises. She really had some great information for us. Get the CD if you didn't hear her...

Pastor Mike preached today about being an authentic follower of Jesus. It is possible to be a good Christian and still be real. Actually, it's not just possible, it's necessary. Get the CD and find out what a neighborhood pot farm had to do with all of this...

Bethel Christian School's Harvest Carnival was today. The Junior and Senior High students ran the activity booths for the littler kids is costumes while dressed up their costumes. We gave away a ton of candy, and I only ended up in the Jail twice...

Wow! Today was our HUGE rummage sale. I guess Bethel folks have a lot of stuff, and it all seemed to end up on campus. Hundreds of people came, looked, and bought most of it (even my comfy green leather chairs!)

In addition to the rummage sale, our school's students washed over 100 cars, and did a pretty good job at it, too.

Thanks to everyone who helped donate, set-up and serve everyone who came. It was a great day.

As a parent, I say it's about time! Today is the first day of school for the '08-'09 school year. God has great things in store for our school, and I'm looking forward every one of them.
